Campobello is an island jewel, with the feeling of faraway,
but close to home and accessible. The island is ringed with lighthouses standing sentinel over the craggy, rockbound
coast, and covered with rich, vibrant greenspace, dotted with small villages and traditional homes.
Whales
spend the summer feeding just off the shore, seals swim in the channel between Lubec and the island, and eagles soar majestically
overhead in the clear, salt-tinged air. Moose and deer roam the forestland, and the Provincial Park boasts an accessible
arctic bog.
Fisherman ply their trade from sheltered harbours, bringing fresh fish and Lobster
to island markets and restaurants daily. Guesthouses and intimate inns lie by the shore and a superb golf course boast views
of Grand Manan Island and the Bay of Fundy tees and greens.
Whale watch cruises, sunset lighthouse
tours and deep-sea fishing boats leave throughout the season from Head Harbour, North Road Wharf and Wilson's Beach Pier.
The restored estate of Franklin D Roosevelt's family stands in an International Park administered by the United States
and Canada. The home of FDR's boyhood summers offers tours of buildings and grounds, as well as being able to host summer
conferences and events.
Campobello Island lies just across The Narrows from the United States,
accessible via the Franklin Delano roosevelt Memorial Bridge and a quiet hassel-free border crossing where visitors from the
US require passports for entry.
